An Organizing Network for Equity on Mercer Island.

40% of Mercer Island families with children attending MISD identify as families of color.

Families are drawn to Mercer Island for the natural beauty, the small-town feel, and the great schools. However, many families of color struggle to feel recognized as part of the community, to feel seen, celebrated and truly accepted. We come together to recognize this is a loss to us all.

We recognize that identities are always intersectional and believe that the fight for racial equity is foundational to equity for all ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, and religions.

Our mission

Enhance positive identity for children of color.
Advance cultural competency in the Mercer Island community.

We rise up in unity to say…

We advocate for your right to call Mercer Island home.

Join our community.

We sign this pledge wall because we believe mercer Island should be a place where every family feels safe and accepted. Embracing diversity in our community prepares our children to be citizens of the world, and every islander needs to advocate for equity and celebrate our diversity in our daily lives and in our institutions.

Thank you for joining us to make Mercer Island a home for all.

Why this matters

Children of color struggle in our community.

There is a distinct, ongoing issue with bigotry and discrimination coming from students and faculty in our learning environments. Will the ambitions, which lacked a clear plan of action, outlined by the district be enough to combat this bigotry and discrimination?
